Haiti Update

After the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti in January, the Alliance family responded with overwhelming generosity, having given over $856,000 toward relief efforts to date. Compassion and Mercy Associates (CAMA), the C&MA’s relief and development arm, moved quickly to meet immediate needs and will continue to be involved in long-term rebuilding and development work in the impoverished nation during the months and years ahead.

Great Commission Sunday 2010

During Spring 2010, the U.S. C&MA family of churches will observe Great Commission Sunday. This will be a day your church sets aside to celebrate what God has done through the worldwide Alliance movement and to focus on Pushing Back the Darkness in new fields where less than 1 percent of the population professes to know Christ.

Resources for pastors to promote Great Commission Sunday in their churches will be made available soon via e-mail and through conventional mail during the next few months. For more information, please contact Director for Communications Rick Hemphill at hemphillr@cmalliance.org.

New Official Workers Forum

We are excited to extend an invitation to all new official workers who have not attended a New Official Workers Forum (NOWF), especially those workers in their first year of service. This year’s NOWF will be held on August 23-26, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Colorado Springs, Colorado, at the foot of the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains. By attending this event, a new worker will:

• Learn more about the vision of the C&MA
• Fulfill one of the requirements toward ordination and consecration
• Network with other new and experienced workers
• Build relationships with C&MA support staff
• Discover new and useful tools that will sharpen ministry skills
• Take a tour of the National Office

Registration fees are nonrefundable. Based on your registration, Church Ministries will reserve and pay for a hotel room for you for the dates of the conference.

Hotel & Travel
NOWF will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, which is located at 2886 South Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80906. Hotel accommodations and meals will be provided by Church Ministries/The Christian and Missionary Alliance during the conference. Hotel rooms are based upon double occupancy. Hotel check-in starts at 3 p.m.

Air or ground transportation to Colorado Springs is the responsibility of each attendee. If traveling by air, please book your flight early to avoid higher costs and limitations on flight times. Return flights out of Colorado Springs should be scheduled for 1:30 p.m. or later on Thursday, August 26.

Complimentary round-trip airport shuttle service will be provided by the hotel from the Colorado Springs Airport to the hotel. Ground transportation will NOT be provided from the Denver International Airport. NOWF will begin with registration at the hotel from 3-5 p.m. on Monday, August 23, and will end on Thursday, August 26, at noon.

Travel Subsidy
All senior/solo pastors who are in their first year of ministry (who started with the C&MA between June 1, 2009 and July 5, 2010) and attend NOWF may apply for a $150 travel subsidy when registering online for the event. All other official workers who are in their first year of ministry (who started with the C&MA between June 1, 2009 and July 5, 2010) and attend NOWF may apply for a $100 travel subsidy when registering online. There is no travel subsidy for a spouse unless he/she is a new official worker. The travel subsidy will be mailed to the attendee following the event.

Spouses
Spouses who are not official workers may attend. The cost for a spouse is $395 and includes registration, meals, and lodging. Since this is a business conference, there are no accommodations for children.

ENvision: Empowering Youth for Service in God’s Kingdom

After hearing the gospel presented in Chinese, 30 students in Taipei—Taiwan’s largest city—received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. The event was a highlight of the 2010 ENvision Conference sponsored by the Alliance Youth office of the C&MA in early January.

Today was our monthly “Day of Prayer”—the first Wednesday of every month. It was a blessing to hear prayers of brokenness as well as testimonies of how God is working. Mrs. S—who is nearly 80 and was baptized in August—never fails to give testimony of God’s goodness in her life. Her only regret is that she didn’t find Him sooner.
